Way to Go!

Vermont Schools are Making a Difference! Join Us!

New for 2017, Way To Go! Is focused on getting K–12 schools on board to battle carbon pollution head-on. You’ll get the tools you need to motivate your students, staff, and teachers to bike, walk, carpool or ride the bus to victory!

Using transportation options, other than driving solo, helps us reach our goal of reducing 1 million lbs of carbon pollution in Vermont. That means cleaner air for everyone. Talk about an A+ for effort!

Sign Up Your School Here!

All K-12 schools in Vermont are eligible to participate, help the environment, get healthy and help your school save money. Once your school is signed up, you’ll appoint your School’s Leader. This person helps get students, staff, and faculty on board for a two-week quest to get to your school using transportation methods that produce less carbon. Our dedicated team will help you every step of the way—from initial sign up all the way to tallying up your results.

NOTE: This year, teachers, staff, and students do not sign-up individually. We just need contact information for at least one school leader who is willing to be the primary contact for the Challenge. We recommend a Leadership Team of 2-5 individuals, to help distribute information and awareness for participation in the Challenge. Support materials and other information will be sent to the leader(s).

Win a Solar Tracker & Other Great Prizes

Shelburne Community School was chosen as 2016’s solar tracker winner. They saved a whopping 39,735 pounds of carbon.

Your hard work does not go unnoticed! If you get your school’s participation rate up over 50%, your school will be entered to win a fully-permitted AllEarth Solar Tracker! But don’t worry, your school won’t go away empty-handed. Here’s a list of the other awesome prizes your school can win:

  • Limited Edition Carbon Cups and Carbon-Cutting Leader Trophies are Awarded to the Top Performing Schools
  • A brand-new ten-bike indoor bike rack system, courtesy of Local Motion.
  • Other great incentives are coming too, including reflective bands, stickers and pencils.

Also, participate in the Young Writers Project! Students who respond to the Way to Go! School Challenge writing prompt will be considered for publication in local newspapers, as well as VPR.net and VtDigger.org, during the challenge dates.

Your school can make a difference in the lives of all Vermonters.

What happened to business and individual participation?

We’re focusing on getting all K–12 schools in Vermont to sign-up and tackle carbon pollution. But, that’s not to say you can’t join the challenge! We encourage you to bike, walk, carpool or ride the bus to victory, too. Any carbon saved is cleaner air earned! See you on the sidewalks!
